I shot a session this weekend, on Sunday. What a beautiful day. My father-in-law wanted his very own lifestyle session, so the two of us headed out of the city a bit. I had my heart set on a location I scouted last year… it was an abandoned farm yard. When we drove up the place was completely flattened! No house, no sheds, no old truck – nothing! The only thing that stood were a few of the original spruce trees and the beautiful old barn. Wow – what a let down! We made the best of things tho and continued on with the session.

Alan – I hope you enjoy your photos! You’re probably the best father-in-law a guy could ask for! (I promise you he didn’t pay me to say that…)

So for those of you on Instagram, you know how addicting it can be right? There’s just something about snapping an iPhone picture, applying a colorful filter on it and seeing how many ‘likes’ you can get! I know.. it sounds silly. So in February I saw a photo thru a friend. She was inviting everyone to join the March Photo A Day Challenge, created by Chantelle of Fat Mum Slim (check out her site or her Facebook page, she’s got some serious iPhone talent!)

Now this challenge was meant to be for Instagram, but I thought I’d break the rules a bit. I still followed the daily photo requirements, but instead of posting them on Instagram, I saved them for you guys! I took them on my Canon 5D and edited them the same way I edit weddings and other shoots – using Adobe Lightroom & VSCO film presets. I labeled each one in Adobe Photoshop with the date and daily challenge. I have to admit tho… I did cheat a little bit. There were some days where something came up and I just forgot to take a photo, so I took the photo the next day instead. Either way, I have 31 photos to share with you… one per day in March. If you’ve never done a daily photo challenge like this before, I encourage you to do so! It gives you the chance to be creative, explore, and grow in your photo-taking skills! This was actually my first challenge believe it or not, but I promise you it won’t be my last!

I’ve never been there before, so it was all new to me. We rented a van so we could really get around. We hit the freeways, headed to the shopping centers, the LA Zoo, the LA Aquarium of the Pacific, Disneyland, Santa Monica, Hollywood, and a billion others. What a blast! Unfortunately the weather wasn’t as hot as I thought it would be, but we still managed to soak up some rays and enjoy ourselves completely :)

California – thanks for an awesome week! We’ll definitely be back :)

I wanted to keep things simple as I photographed our vacation. I stuck with one body and one lens the entire time. All images were shot with a Canon 5D, and a Canon 50mm f/1.4. All images were processed with VSCO film actions.

Now the main floor is aglow from the light of my computer screen as I sit here in the dark. With a bowl of cheerios. Don’t judge.

I just realized that I still haven’t got the chance to blog Rebecca’s Glam Session! I should probably get on that soon. For now here’s one more for you. I love the blue chair, the green wall, and the light coming in through the windows. So there you have it. I’m heading up to bed to try this sleep thing again. G’nite Edmonton.

Anyway, after looking thru my baby book I realized just how NOT similar we are – he actually does look like mommy more than me. Although I didn’t win any points in the similarities category, I did have a good laugh looking thru the old photographs. It’s hard to believe how much a person changes over time. I realized how much I love my family, and I hope I can give Jett as many good childhood memories as I have :)

Christie & Trevor are awesome. Totally awesome. Brandi and I had the best day with these two – they are beautiful not only on the outside, but inside as well – and we were so thrilled to be invited to capture the most important day of their lives! I had a hard time choosing which photos to blog – there are so many that truly express the happiness they were feeling that day.

To the happy couple – we are so blessed to know you guys! We know you are meant for each other in every way, and we’re happy to now call you our friends. Best wishes.
